Standard Operating Procedures
Drill
Attendance:
· 75% attendance is required. We drill 11 times a year. 75% of that is 8.25 times. Attendance of
less than 75% is reason to be dropped from the unit.
· Acceptable reasons for absence:
-School (classes)
-Playing on a school sponsored sports team
-Testing (SAT / ACT)
-Important family events (weddings, funerals, reunions, milestone birthdays)
-Illness (if this becomes a common excuse you may be asked to provide a doctors note
documenting your illness)
-Weather Conditions
Drill make up:
· Missed drills must be made up to count for time in grade toward advancement.
· Drill time can be made up through:
Community service – bring a note that documents the service completed and the time spent.
Local training orders – you may ask for training time at a Coast Guard Base, MEPS, local fire
department or other location. These trainings will not be counted toward training days needed for
advancement but will serve as time in grade for advancement.
· National training orders for advanced trainings cannot be used to make up missed drill times.
Money:
· Dues ($5.00) for each drill is due whether you attend or not. This helps to pay for needed
supply items that you earn (stripes, ribbons, certificates etc.) Arrangements can be made to pay
on an annual basis if you would like.
· Meal money ($15.00) for each drill is required. If you notify us one week in advance that you
will not be attending you will not need to pay. If you do not notify us you will be expected to bring
the money to the next drill. We notify the CG Base of numbers expected one week before drill
and must fulfill that number.
Training
request for orders:
· 30 day advance notice is required. You must provide dates desired / available for training.
· Summer training:
When the schedule is posted the unit will establish a deadline for order requests.
All required paperwork and funds must be turned in by the established deadline or no summer
training will take place.
Advancements
· Manuals that are turned in at check in Friday will be graded by final formation on Sunday (time
and personnel permitting)
· Manuals turned in after check in will be graded by the next drill.
Promotions will be effective the date of grading, this will be reflected in record jackets and on
certificates of promotion.
· It is your responsibility to know when you are due for advancement and to get your manuals
done in a timely fashion. Use study time for this. If you are having troubles with the manuals ask
for help during study times. Senior cadets can, and should, help you with any difficulties you are
having.
